Splitting a track
Upload a file or paste a link, pick 5 or 7 stems and Hi-Fi, and watch the stems appear one by one. Formats, limits and what to expect while it runs.
#Three ways in
- Drop a file. Audio in
wavmp3flacaiffaacalacm4aoggopus, or a video file; the audio track is pulled out for you. - YouTube Import. Paste a video URL. The audio is fetched, converted and split like any upload. Web only.
- SoundCloud Import. Same idea with a public SoundCloud track URL. Web only.
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Maximum length | 22 minutes 30 seconds |
| Maximum file size | 1.5 GB |
| Output stems | MP3, 320 kbps (WAV export is a conversion, see Export) |
#Choose your stems before you start
5 Stem gives you vocals, drums, bass and other, plus a generated metronome track that follows the song. 7 Stem adds guitar and piano, always in Hi-Fi. Hi-Fi is a slower, cleaner separation that takes a little longer and bleeds less. Stems and quality goes into when each is worth it.
#What happens after you press start
- You name the project, confirm on Ready to split? and press Start Splitting. The file is checked (length and size), converted if needed, and queued.
- The song is separated. The upload page keeps polling and opens the Studio as soon as the first stem lands ("Hang tight! We will keep this window open and redirect as soon as your first stem is ready."), and the remaining stems fill in while you listen.
- In the background, tempo and key are detected, a beat grid is built for the metronome, chords are analysed from the harmonic stems, and lyrics are transcribed from the vocal stem.
- You land in the Studio with everything in place. The project also appears under Projects in the app, with format, sample rate, bit depth, BPM and key.
#One project, one product
A project is either a stem split or a Voice Clean, never both. If you want to noise-clean a recording you already split, upload it again on the Voice Clean tab.
Can I split a track I mastered in SoundBoost?
Yes. From the mastering workspace, the stem-level prompts already use a hidden split of your preview. For the full track, download the master and upload it on the Stem Split Studio tab.
The YouTube link fails
Age-restricted, private and live videos cannot be fetched. Very long videos over 22:30 are refused before download.
Does the original file quality matter?
A lot. Separation quality follows source quality. A 320 kbps MP3 is fine; a heavily compressed rip will give muddier stems.
