Reference mastering
Name a track or artist you want to sound like. The engineer treats it as a brief, picks settings in that direction and renders a revision.
#How it works
- Switch the top toggle to ReferenceThe prompt field becomes a search box: Search track, artist or album.
- Search and pickResults come from a music catalogue and are tagged Track or Artist. Pick one and the field fills in as "Artist - Track".
- Apply ReferenceThis sends "Master my track like Artist - Track" to your engineer, and a new revision renders.
#Tips
- Pick a reference in the same genre as your track. The closer the match, the more useful the result.
- Artist references are broader than track references. "Daft Punk" is a style; "Get Lucky" is a mood.
- Follow up with a normal prompt. "Like that but less bright" on the next line keeps the reference context and adjusts it.
- A/B the reference revision against your Default Revision before you fall in love with it. Louder often reads as better for the first ten seconds.
#Availability
Reference mastering is part of the Unlimited and Unlimited Plus plans. On a free account, choosing a result opens the membership wall with Reference Mastering highlighted. Prompts, engineers and the Revision Suite stay free.
Can I upload my own reference file?
Not at the moment. Search a released track or artist. If you have a specific master you want to match, describe what you hear in it with a prompt: "punchy low end, bright top, very loud".
The search finds nothing
Try fewer words, or the artist alone. Live and remix versions are often listed under slightly different titles.
