Drum separation

Break the drum stem into kick, snare, toms, hi-hat and cymbals. The drums become a group channel you can mix element by element. Unlimited Plus.

Press SEPARATE under Drums, confirm, and the kit fills in piece by piece.

#What you get

The confirmation shows what the group channel will look like.
ElementTypical use
KickSidechain reference, layering, learning the kick pattern
SnareReplace or reinforce, study ghost notes
TomsFills on their own
Hi-HatGroove and subdivision practice
CymbalsCrashes and rides, or mute them to tame a bright mix

The separation runs on the drum stem after the main split, with a dedicated drum engine. Elements appear as they finish, so you can keep mixing while it works. The original Drums row turns into a group with the five elements underneath; the group fader still controls the whole kit.

After separation: the drum group with its five elements, each with its own solo, mute, fader and pan.

#Why drummers like it

  • Solo the kick and hi-hat to hear how a groove locks, then add the snare.
  • Mute the cymbals and loop a fill; toms and snare become easy to read.
  • Export the elements to build a drum kit from a record you love (check the rights first).
